In the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 1st, 2017 a group of Water Protectors ascended higher ground on the West side of HWY 1806 across from the original Oceti Sakowin Camp and established “Last Child Camp” with seven Tepees.
By mid day, a large convoy of law enforcement officers had amassed on the North side of the barricade which divides Bismarck, ND from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Reservation. The barricade was removed to allow the convoy through and after several hours of slow, steady advancement the convoy reached Last Child Camp and those on the contested treaty land were arrested.
This video includes footage from throughout the day and the words of Chase Iron Eyes as he walks to Last Child Camp after meeting with Law Enforcement representatives to tell them of the new camp’s intentions.
