MN Gov. Mark Dayton Vetoes “Guilty by Association” Bill

The Republican controlled Minnesota Senate passed SF 3463 on May 22, 2018 at the close of the 90th Legislative session. SF 3463, which became known as the “Guilty by Association” bill, was designed to preemptively increase penalties for “water protectors” before the Line 3 Tar Sands Oil Pipeline Replacement Project becomes a stage for a similar public response as what happened at “Standing Rock” in North Dakota with the Dakota Access Pipeline Project.

We had a chance to connect with Bill Paulson, Community Leader at Camp Turtle Island-MikinaakMinis Genawendang Nibi Endazhi-gabeshing outside the White Earth Reservation, as part of a flyover documenting the current and proposed routes for the Line 3 Tar Sands Oil Replacement Project in North/Central Minnesota.

Final Line 3 Replacement Project PUC Meeting Dates

The Line 3 Replacement Pipeline Project has been undergoing regulatory review in the State of Minnesota for over 3 years and the final verdict will most likely be announced in the final days of June, 2018 after four days of public meetings & deliberation by the PUC.

A two-day event called the “Block (Line 3) Party” was organized at 121 7th Place East in front of Minnesota’s Public Utilities Commission by MN350: Building a Climate Movement in Minnesota, Sierra Club Northstar Chapter, Honor the Earth and the Power Shift Network to raise awareness about the upcoming decision by the PUC to either approve or deny the permit for Enbridge Energy’s proposed Line 3 Pipeline Replacement Project in Northern Minnesota.

Although we’ve been working in the non-profit/public benefit sector for quite some time, Standing Rock was our first major effort to influence change on a nation/global-wide scale. We’re obviously not the only ones who did, but all-in-all we gave it everything we had and wish to continue this line of work in the future.
