A Rally & March took place in Downtown St. Paul on Friday, Jan. 29th, 2021 to raise awareness and encourage the Biden Administration to revoke Federal permits which have been issued for the Line 3 Tar Sands Oil Pipeline Replacement Project in a similar way to the recent actions taken on the Keystone XL Pipeline.
The demonstration, “Protect the Water, Revoke the Permits”, began at Kellogg Square Park and marched on the public roadway to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineering Headquarters about 1 mile away.
Approximately 600 people were in attendance at the demonstration including State Senators Jenn McEwen (District 7, Duluth) and Mary Kunesh (District 41, New Brighton) who had both visited the active construction site where Enbridge is planning to drill underneath the Mississippi River in Palisade, MN earlier in the winter.
The event was organized by MN350, Environment Minnesota, The Land Stewardship Program, Health Professionals for a Healthy Climate, Clean Water Action Minnesota, Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light, Twin Cities Democratic Socialists of America, Honor the Earth, International Indigenous Youth Council, Science for the People – Twin Cities, Sunrise Movement Twin Cities, MN Youth Climate Strikes, the MN DFL Environmental Caucus & Northfield Against Line 3.
